On November 30, 2011, CREW sent Freedom of Information Act requests to the Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration seeking records concerning the agencies’ guidance in disposing of records related to law enforcement investigations. CREW made these requests in light of recent revelations that the Securities and Exchange Commission routinely destroys records of closed preliminary investigations and seeks to learn how widespread this practice is.
