Is It A Cult? — TEST #1
Always frst and oremost, who do these say that Jesus Christis? We should completely rerain rom “yoking” with those thatteach that He was only a Prophet, a Son o God. Know thatHe is the Son o God, the Alpha and Omega, the Creator andSustainer o the Heavens and the Earth, and the soon-comingKing o those that are His and Judge o those that are not(2 John 7; l John 2:22-23; John 1:1-14; Col. 1:15-20; Heb. 1:1-4).
“He is the image o the invisible God, the rstborn overall creation. For by Him all things were created that are inheaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whetherthrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and or Him. And He is beoreall things, and in Him all things consist. And He is thehead o the body, the church, who is the beginning, therstborn rom the dead, that in all things He may have thepreeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all theullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all thingsto Himsel, by Him, whether things on earth or things inheaven, having made peace through the blood o His cross.”(Colossians 1:15-20)“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and thegovernment will be upon His shoulder. And His name willbe called Wonderul, Counselor, Mighty God, EverlastingFather, Prince o Peace. O the increase o His governmentand peace there will be no end, upon the throne o Davidand over His kingdom, to order it and establish it withjudgment and justice rom that time orward, even orever. The zeal o the Lord o hosts will perorm this.” (Isaiah9:6-7)
“And she will bring orth a Son, and you shall call Hisname Jesus, or He will save His people rom their sins.”(Matthew 1:21)
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, andthey shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated,‘God with us.’” (Matthew 1:23) A cult may rationalize away these Truths with “ne soundingarguments” and complex (so-called) theology. I a child can’tappreciate the “simplicity o the Gospel” that they teach, thenit is not the Good News that Jesus spoke o (Mat. 11:25-27;2 Cor.1:12-14, 11:3).
Is It A Cult? — TEST #2
A cult may teach the correct doctrine in regard to the Persono Jesus Christ. They may even very persuasively and zealously “deend the Faith,” and yet (watch this one—it’s very subtle!) deny the Truths o it by their lives.
A cult (or those that are not actually cults, but churches outo ellowship with their God) will seldom practice Truths o theScriptures that are unpopular with the carnal and unsaved. As anexample, seldom will they obey the clear, specic command o God in 1 Cor. 5:7-13; Heb. 12:15; Titus 3:10; etc. to deal with sin intheir midst. Only in the most obvious and extreme cases—probably only in the case o overt immorality—would most dare to pay theconsequences socially o obeying Almighty God Himsel. What are we doing?! Read His Words and see or yoursel i this obedience tothe King o Kings in going on in the group that you are a part o:
“Thereore purge out the old leaven, that you may be anew lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeedChrist, our Passover, was sacrifced or us. Thereore let uskeep the east, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven o malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread o sincerity and truth.
“I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company withsexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people o this world, or withthe covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out o the world.“But now I have written to ‘you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoralor materialistic or an idolater [anything usurping God’sabsolute reign in money expenditure, time usage, decisions or priorities—whether amily, T.V., job, computer, recreation, . . . ], or with a oul tongue [yelling in anger orabusing, reviling, or degrading o other], or a drunkard, or
