We have received our annual reportfrom the Vermont State Departmentof Education and have much to beproud of!Under Federal Law (known now asthe “No Child Left Behind” law), allschools must take an annual test.Different regions of the country areallowed to use different tests.Vermont is part of the New EnglandCommon Assessment Program, oneof the more rigorous tests in thecountry. The student result data must beseparated out to show that differentsub groups are all having an equalchance to make academic gains. Inour school, the sub groups includethose who qualify for free orreduced price lunch; those whoqualify for an IndividualizedEducation Program; and those withNative American origin. There hasto be at least 40 students to createa “sub group,” so while we do have

at 6:30 p.m. We arehosting a “Take 25” evening, aprogram of the National Center forstudents in other ethnic categories,we do not have significant numbersto reflect in the data.When the test, taken in October, isscored, the Department of Education calculates our annualprogress. The US Department of Education has set an “annualmeasurable objective,” or AMO thatincreases gradually through theyear 2014, with the goal that allstudents will be “proficient” by thatyear. If any subgroup does notmake “Adequate Yearly Progress”(AYP) toward the AMO, the school isidentified as needing support.Last year, we were identified forthree subgroups – low income,disabilities, and AmericanIndian/Alaskan Native. This year,we made great gains, and studentsfrom lower income situations arenow achieving at the same levels asall other students! We still need tokeep on our path of schoolMissing and Exploited Children. Wehave great information about howto keep your child safe, includingfree handouts and presentations forboth children and adults. We willbegin together in the CentralCafeteria, with adults and childrensplitting up for separate
