T h e lin e w a s la id o u t t o intersect the m ain area of visible features.T he prom ontory had previously been the subject of both area ground resistance and m agnetom etry surveys so it w as know n th a t a lin e th ro u g h th e m ain to p o g ra p h ic fe a tu re s in te rs e c te d b o th re s is tiv e a n d

m a g n e tic a n o m a lie s .
H igh resistance features, detected in the area resistance survey, appear at about the 6
and 9m m arks on the linear survey and extend to a depth of over 1m . A square

resistive feature (?tow er), show n on the area resistive survey w as crossed tw ice by the linear array and appears as high resistances at the 21 and 27m m arks. T he resistance at the 27m m ark angles dow nw ards and could represent a set of steps found during an e x c a v a tio n b y A rm a d a le A c a d e m y p u p ils a n u m b e r o f y e a rs a g o . T w o h ig h

resistances, at the 34 and 37m m arks, align w ith less clear high resistance features on
the area survey that have been interpreted as part of a com plex of buildings to the W
o f th e p u rp o rte d to w e r b u t le s s s u b s ta n tia lly c o n s tr u c te d . S lig h tly ra is e d re s is ta n c e s a t
th e 1 2 a n d 1 5 m m a rk s a lig n w ith a la rg e a r e a o f m a g n e tic a n o m a ly th a t o n ly s h o w s
am orphous areas of raised resistance on the area survey.
