Sum m ary
A rea ground resistance and m agnetom etry surveys w ere m ade over tw o sites to the
w est of A rm adale. T h e first is recorded by R C A H M S as O gilface C astle (site of)

s ta n d in g o n a n a rro w rid g e th a t ju ts e a s tw a rd s in to th e B a rb a u c h la w G le n . T h e g ro u n d resistance survey w as m ade over four 20 by 20m squares proceeding to the w est from th e e a s te rn e n d o f th e p ro m o n to ry w ith o n e fb rth e r s q u a re a d d e d t o th e n o rth o f th e fourth square w here the prom ontory w idened. T he m agnetom etry survey w as m ade at a la te r d a te o v e r th e first fo u r o f th e s e s q u a re s .

L ess regular high resistances occur o n th e n o rth s id e o f th e p ro m o n to ry ; th e s e m ay a ls o in d ic a te a w a ll th a t h a s la rg e ly collapsed due to erosion caused by the sm all burn on this side; the sm all burn curves t o jo in th e B a rb a u c h la w B u rn lo w e r d o w n th e g le n .

surrounded by enclosure banks, a circular feature, possible track-w ays and rig and

T hirteen 20 by 20m squares w ere laid out to include m ost of the m ain features and

w ere surveyed using both ground resistance and m agnetom etry equipm ent. T he area c o n ta in s m a n y ig n e o u s ro c k s a n d fe a tu re s o n th e m a g n e to m e try p rin to u t a re d iffic u lt to interpret but do correlate w ith the resistivity survey results. B oth surveys confirm features seen on the ground andi n the aerial photographs.H igh resistance and
