enhanced m agnetic response are m ostly related to m atching areas of raised resistance
a n d c o u ld re p re s e n t v a ry in g d ra in a g e c h a n n e ls in th e d rift g e o lo g y . L in e a r h ig h
resistances, that enter the area from the south w estjust to the north of the church w all,
w ere early candidates for excavation and w ere found to be cobbled surfaces and
p ro b a b le w a ll fo o tin g s . R e lie f p lo ts o f th e re s is ta n c e s u rv e y s h o w rig a n d h r r o w
c u ltiv a tio n o v e r th e w h o le a re a w ith h r r o w s c u rv in g to c o n fo rm to th e lin e o f th e

bank of the R iver A von; this plot also show s a possible structure, at the north east c o r n e r o f th e s u rv e y , th a t is a d ja c e n t t o a s p rin g . A m a g n e tic a n o m a ly lin e , th a t c u ts fro m th e n o rth w e s t s id e o f th e s u rv e y t o th e m id d le o f th e s o u th s id e is n o t m a tc h e d by a resistive feature and m ay be the infilled line of the leat fiom the M anual B urn in to th e R iv e r A v o n .

possible to the bank of the R iver A von. T he w est side of the square w as thus on 340
d e g re e s a n d it w a s fe lt th a t th is o rie n ta tio n s h o u ld c o v e r th e a re a m o st lik e ly to
contain rem ains. T he cereal crop had just been harvested from the field and the
