T he survey in the C ram ond T ow er spinney show s a low resistance that enters the

property from the east and curves round tow ards the pond w hich has previously been sh o w n to b e o n th e lin e o f a R o m a n d itc h .Alo w re s is ta n c e th a t c r o s s e s ro u g h ly n o rth - south across the survey, 35m fi-om the east end, appears to align w ith the old m ain

d ra in th a t ru n s d o w n h ill fro m th e 1 6 8 0 C ra m o n d H o u s e .
P e r m i s s i o n w a s g i v e n in 2 0 0 1 b y H i s t o r i c S c o t l a n d , f o r t h e S o c i e t y t o c o n d u c t

geophysical surveys in four places w ithin the Scheduled M onum ent A rea at C ram ond. T hree of these had previously been com pleted, tw o in Septem ber 2002 and one in the autum n of 2004 (R efs. 8 .1 and 8.2).T he survey of the fourth area w as m ade over the n o r t h e r n e d g e o f t h e R o m a n f o r t in a n a r e a k n o w n t o h a v e b e e n m u c h d i s t u r b e d . R a e and R ae (R ef. 8 .3 )com m ent that ground levelling had rem oved soil dow n to R om an levels, this w as done in at least tw o stages, the first by Sir John Inglis in the late 1
