News from An Siopa Bui
Just thought I would take amoment to reflect on my little shop- what it started as and what it isnow - 9 years later.
I moved here from South Africaand started up a little shop deep inConnemara. I painted it Yellow because it is a happy colour. Thelocals started calling it An SiopaBui ...I have always loved arts and craftsand had done ceramics as a mini business in South Africa andthrough the crafting communityhad been introduced to rubber stamping. From that came card-making and then scrapbooking. My first real introduction to thecardmaking and crafting communi-ty in Ireland was at the Knittingand Stitching show at the RDS inNovember of 2003. I met so manywonderful people, many who arestill friends today.
Although we were very well sup-ported out in Kylsalia, it was a longenough drive (over an hour fromGalway), and there just wasn’tenough passing trade. I am still sothankful and amazed and howmany people drove all the way out -and even stayed the weekend tovisit our little shop. We had somegreat Extravaganza’s with amazingtutors, some fabulous classes andmore. It was during this time that Istarted the Yellow Club - which has been going for 8 years! We startedwith 10 members and now evenwith the recession we have 60 mem- bers.
Just over six years we moved intoour shop in the Spiddal CraftCentre, and Kim joined me as myright hand (and maybe left hand aswell). It has made the shop somuch more accessible and we have been able to meet so many morecustomers.Since then lots has happened and because of our customers it is allgood.
