When does bullying become abuse? Jaan Islam

WHAT IS BULLYING? This is not the dictionary definition, Ill just tell you what bullying means to me. It is some kind abuse or oppression for no reason. Its like you are having a bad day at work and you come home and beat up your children or wife. Today, bullying can be of many kids. It can be cyber, it can be physical, it can be emotional, verbal, or anything. It can also be that you are upset about something that I have done, but you cannot really punish me for that reason, so you decide to show off your power over me. You can use your power or authority to scare me for no reason or reason that you cannot really justify. Its an oppression and taking away the right and dignity of a person. If two people are fighting with each other and they are similar in physical and position. It wont be bullying. It would be a fight. Bullying is, where one person is completely oppressing the other, who cannot defend himself. It involves oppression. So, even if they are equal in power, but one is being the oppressor, he becomes the bully. Oppressor is the bully. Prophet was bullied during the first 13 years in Mecca, where he was being oppressed from all sides. Then, even after he immigrated to Medina, Meccan people pursued him and repeatedly attacked Medina, until the treaty of Hodaibiya was signed. Then they broke that treaty, but this time prophet had enough followers to stop this bullying once in for all. They came to Mecca peacefully to the land that they were driven out from. No one was killed, tried, or driven out. Thats the Prophets way of doing things.

Not exactly a prophet! MMA acts as though it is

The owner of the mosque. Islam prohibits such action. Students are disciplined by praying in the hallway in humiliation. This is unislamic and violation of Occupational Safety code. The sign is right there, but who can read? Anyone points out anything, he is targeted and eliminated from the equation. This is systematic and has been going on for at least last 10 years.

First to stand up.

We were the first to confront these issue, and take a stand.
How do you stop bullying?
One must recognize bullying as an act of oppression. It is a discrimination and a sin. First of all, you dont discriminate or bully anyone. If you are angry at something, just seek protection from Satan and calm down. Prophet said, you should sit down if you are standing when angry. If you are sitting down, lie down. Make wadhu and pray do whatever you can do to deal with your anger. Dont take it on someone else, most importantly not someone who is in your care. Thats why bullying children by an adult is so bad. I have seen such bullying in MMA many times and many times I reported to the principal, only to find out recently he was the biggest bully of them all. If you see bullying, you have to follow prophets command. That is, try to stop it by hand. This can mean even major war for a country, just so you can protect the oppressed people. If you are not capable, meaning if you dont have the power to stop bullying (like whats going on around the world by USA), you stop bullying with your tongue. This can mean doing protest, writing emails, facebook postings, being an activist in general. I have done that for every bullying I say at MMA, including one knife incident. Now I know that others also saw similar bullying in the past but didnt have the guts to speak out or were afraid to talk because of the nature of the principal. He terrorized them. Muslim kids are very timid and they are afraid because Muslim parents usually side with the authority and bullying by principal is very easy, especially if the parents are cultural Muslims rather than real Muslim. The weakest form of Iman is when you cannot stop bullying with hands or with your tongue. You then stop with your heart. This doesnt mean you just sit there and pray or hate the bully. It means you plan what to do. Talk to others, may be Allah will give you some idea about how to stop the bully. Real examples of bullying at MMA This letter summarizes the bullying that I experienced at MMA. This letter was sent to the principal. Of course, he got super angry and asked me to apologize, not for anything I have done wrong but for writing this letter. You would see its on the wall of MMA, Children have the right to express their opinion. Thats Nova Scotia law, imagine what rights they have through Islam! Islam says children are 100% Muslim, they are like the prophets. Prophet said, you cannot be a Muslim unless other Muslims are safe from your tongue and hand. MMA principal claims he is the 100% Muslim, he never lies and punishes anyone who dares to speak out about this crazy attitude. Talk about a Bully! A letter to Hadi Salah, by a student who SPOKE UP, for himself, and others who support him: Asalamu Aeikom, Ever since your 'son', Hakim's bullying incident (that was reported by Ms.Kathryn and judged and punished by you), I have come to you to report of many bullying incidents. They mainly involved teachers. Recently I reported bullying by students. You assured me that these would be dealt with to make me feel comfortable at MMA. What you did on Friday infront of practically the whole school made mee feel sick to my stomach.

Qaddafi in Halifax?
One of the longest running dictators of all time, Moammar Qaddafi used to call himself the king of kings. In Islamic faith, such denomination is reserved for God Almighty, the creator of everything. The same Qaddafi also said, I cannot recognise either the Palestinian state or the Israeli state. The Palestinians are idiots and the Israelis are idiots. Then he went on to saying, We are telling the American people to have patience, courage, resolve and determination. In 2001, one of the visiting scholars from Libya wrote to the then Vice President of Dalhousie University, Dr. Islam has insulted my leader, she was expecting that this would stir up rage in the Dalhousie presidency and have me fired. Dont laugh, this story was picked by the Frank Magazine. Todate, I am the only professor who ever brought Libyan students with full research assistantship. Some of these students have since become full professor of universities, but none of whom returned to Libya, not at least if they completed their studies. In 2003, a Libyan professor colleague told me in Tripoli, We know that Qaddafi knows that we know that he knows that we know that he is crazy. No, this is not a tongue twister, this is a real quote from a Libyan professor who graduated from a US university. After thinking about it over the weekend I decided to write this letter to you. If it shakes you up and you change your style, alhamdulillah - I have already forgiven you. If it doesn't and makes you more violent and you continue to bully me and other kids, I am saving a copy. I talked some MMA board members and other Muslims who served the board before. Everyone agrees, you report to no one, and you don't feel accountable to anyone. So, I have to figure out who can hold you accountable. Maybe you can tell me. Dont tell me it's Allah. God fearing people don't behave this way - not in school, not in the mosque, not in the playground.

You called me a liar. Yet, I was telling you the truth. I didnt have the newsletter with me and my dad proved me right when he came rushing with the copy from the car. Before giving me a chance, you were so violent with me I lost my Mind and said whatever I thought would remove you from my face. Did you even realize what it does when a principal does that to a kid? You graduated from Dalhousie, I have seen many graduates from there, many from Libya (my dad was their supervisor), none treats kids the way you do. You are not married or you don't have kids. It doesn't seem you have any manner to deal with kids. Few weeks ago imam saad lectured about how prophet used to treat kids. You should have learned from that. (next)

would be bad because a principal should be proud of such effort by a student. But it would be a matter that could be resolved. For instance, you could have pointed out any inaccuracies in the journal and I would have published your letter. But it's not about the journal, is it? Otherwise, why would you talk about it with my mother and not my father? Why you wouldn't tell me where you got the copies? Why you wouldn't buy issue 3 from mideast or other places that are selling it? Instead you bullied me into agreeing to bring you a free copy. Then you call me a liar for forgetting the issue in the car and humiliate me in front of t h e w h o l e s c h o o l .

I talked to about one MMA teacher bullying, you said, 'people throw rocks only to trees that have fruits'. You said, it was hasada and told me an apology would be coming. Well it didn't. If that was hasada, what was your action? I am not the one lying here. My dad and I talked to you about Ms. Kathryn. You said, it was unprofessional what she did and you would correct it. You also took my homework that was marked poor very irratonslly. You promised something would be done. Nothing happened. I am not the one lying here. I told you Ms. Mariah was teaching nonsense. My dad talked to you about how false the content was (nothing in between gas molecules, sun moving very slowly, flour and water mixture making Newtonian fluid, etc.), you said she loves me and this would be corrected. How about the abuse everyone is exposed to, in MMA, in the mosque, in the playground. Who is going to dismiss the offender? In desoeration, I asked my dad to write to you. He did and what he got back is a pack of lie. Such big lie that his lawyer had to write to the board. I'll have a lawyer next week on and she will have access to all these lies told about me and my dad. I am not the one lying here. I had nothing but trust for you. When I saw things that dont make sense or are plainly in violation of Islamic principles, I came to you. Now I know you are the initiator and sustainer of everything that's wrong at MMA. I didn't have to even interview you, you exposed yourself.
