DUTIES OF WELDING INSPECTOR The first & foremost duty of a welding inspector is to make sure that all welding

and its associated actions in accordance with the agreed welding specification relevant to contract & work BEFORE WELDING
1. Check the drawing, specifications and review all applicable documents. 2. Check the material chemical compositions with mill certificate and confirm whether it meets to the scope of the work. 3. Check the welding procedures are approved and confirm to the scope of the work. 4. Check the welder & welding operators are approved to the scope of the work. 5. Check the welding consumables i.e., type of the electrode, filler wire, shielding & backing gases and special dry requirements for electrode according to the specifications. 6. Check the components edge preparations, fit up, and alignment are made according to the drawing requirements. (I.e.) tacking, root gap, root angle. 7. Check the cleanliness of material surface and condition. 8. Check the welding equipments and its parameter control units and meters are calibrated and valid within the scope of the requirements. 9. Check whether any preheat is required according to the procedure, requirements. 10. Safety requirements and weather conditions should be checked.

DURING WELDING
1. Check whether correct welding process is carried out according to the procedure requirements. 2. Check the welding parameters (i.e,) current, voltage, travel speed are compliance with the scope of W.P.S. 3. Check preheat and inter pass temperature are maintained with the scope of WPS. 4. Check the root and inter pass cleaning are properly dont or not. 5. Check the correct welding consumables (i.e) electrode, shielding gases, filler wire etc., are used according to the scope of requirements. 6. Check and confirm the welder identity card.

AFTER WELDING
1. Ensure the cleanliness of the welds (i.e.) free from slag and spatters etc. 2. Check all the welds are properly identified (I.e.) weld shape, bead, dimensional. 3. Carry out visual inspections (I.e.) weld shape, bead, dimensional accuracy, length, size are according to drawing and specifications. 4. To release the component to NDE according to the scope of requirements. 5. Check whether the repairs are carried out according to the procedure and specifications. 6. Check whether any P.W.H.T is required according to the scope and if it is then check the process and cycle temperature according to the procedure. 7. Do the final inspection prior to close testing. 8. Witness of pressure test, calibration of pressure gauges and chart records should be checked and signed with the respect to procedure requirements. 9. Finally all documents generated during above inspections should be collected and produced for final documentation.
