V. VI. VII. COURSE NUMBER: COURSE TITLE: PRE-REQUISITE: CREDIT HOURS: ROOM/DAY/TIME: PROFESSOR: COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a three unit non-academic subject. This course is an examination of the fundamental concepts and foundations, which form the historical and spiritual basis of Sacraments as they are celebrated in the Church today. This course therefore presents the relationship between the historical dimensions and the theological meanings in the evolution of sacramental practice. An analysis and understanding of the theological meanings, background and practice of the sacraments of initiation, healing and vocation is the primary goal, which would allow every learner to pursue this course. VIII. RATIONALE: Theology 4 Sacramentology Theology 3 18 weeks x 3 hours (MW / TH = 1.5 hours)

The Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II) depicts the sacraments as the center of catholic life. Just as without Christ, Christian faith is impossible, so without the sacraments there could be no Catholic Church. The seven ritual sacraments are grounded directly in both, Christ, the primordial sacrament and, the Church as the basic fundamental sacrament. Thus the seven ritual sacraments are the actions of Christ and of the church, which unites us to Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, and incorporates us into his body, the Church. It is always believed that being Catholic, receiving the sacrament is a part of ones life. It assumed that our encounter with God is clearly manifested through the sacraments. Through the Sacraments Jesus Christ offers his love and his friendship to us. Thus, sacraments are signs of salvation through which He communicates truth and grace.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: The course recognizes the living presence of Christ in todays world. The learners are expected to exhibit an integrated understanding of the sacraments as significant signs of faith in the life of the Christian community.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, the students are expected to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Realize that the sacraments are grounded directly to Christ and the Church. Point out that in the sacraments the believer is united to Christ through prayers and acts of charity. Express their love for God by frequent reception of the sacraments as a sign of their active participation in every liturgical celebration. Concretize their appreciation of their received gifts through the sacraments by joining community building like outreach programs of the Colegio and their community.
