STATEMENT ROBERT (A.K.A.“BOBBY”) DAVIS
I was very upset when I read the recent 2012 report on Syracuse University’s2005 investigation of my claims against former SU Assistant Mens’ BasketballCoach, Bernie Fine. Reading that report it seemed to me that SU failed to do athorough and complete investigation of my allegations that Bernie Fine had sexuallyabused me for many years when I was a “ballboy” for SU’s Mens’ Basketball team.It seems to me that SU was more concerned with protecting itself than it wasin protecting children who are under the supervision of SU employees.A college should never care more about protecting its reputation than it doesabout protecting children from child sexual abuse.Today I am even more upset to learn that in addition to how SU has tried towhitewash its previous errors, the University may have also violated the law.My whole goal in sharing my painful experience with Bernie Fine was to try to protect other children and the community. If SU violated the Clery Act then theyneed to be held accountable.
