TheSchoolBoardhasidentifiedthefollowingqualitiesforthesuperintendentofschools.Pleaserespondtoeachofthequalitiesstressingyourexperience,strengths,andabilitiesineacharea,limitingyourresponsestobetween200and300wordsforeachitem.
1.Aleaderwhosolicits,respectsandvaluestheinputofstakeholdersatalllevelsoftheorganizationandwhohasdemonstratedleadershipinutilizingthatinputtocreateandsustainacultureofshareddecision-making.
WhileservingastheDeputySuperintendentalongwiththebudgetcuts,comeswiththechallengeofassuminganumberofjobsinordertofulfillthevoidinsteadofareplacement.Therefore,havingtheresponsibilityofbeingdedicatedandcommittediscriticaltothesuccessoftheschoolsystemwhileservinginthecapacityashumanresourcesdirector,testingcoordinator,specialed.director,socialworker,supervisorofthefollowingdepartments:campuspolice,transportation,nutrition,maintenanceandcustodial.Eachdepartmentisencouragedtoshareanyproblemsorconcernsthatwillnegativelyorpositivelyimpacttheirjobs.Notonlyarethedepartmentheadsencouragedtoshare;theyalsoknowthatthereisaprocessthatmustbeadheredto.Nomatterwhattypeofsuggestionforimprovementtheymayhavetoshare,itmustbeclearlydocumentedwithsupportingdetailssuchasthetopic,whyitissignificant,howwillitbecommunicated,copiesofthesurveyresultsoftheentiredepartmentstaff,whowillitbecommunicatedto,howitwillbeimplemented,whoitwillbenefit,whowillbeinvolvedwiththeimplementation,howwillitimpactstudentlearning,howwillitbemonitoredandevaluatedandhowwillitbefunded.Oncethisprocessiscompletedandthereisadequatedocumentationthattheprojectwillbeplausible,thenextstepwouldbeapresentationbythatdepartmenttotheBoardofEducation.ThisisavitalpartoftheprocessincommunicatingwiththeBoardsothattheycanbemadeawareoftheconcernandherehowtheprojectedprojectwillbenefitstudentachievement.Ofcourse,ifitisaprojectthatwillinvolvecommunityresources,theytoowouldbeincludedinthepresentationaswell.Thisisacriticalstepinachievingsuccess.
2.Aleaderwhosupportsandempowersprincipals,teachersandstafftoimproveorganizationalandstudentperformanceoutcomes.
Itisveryimportanttodevelopasharedsetofgoalsandmissionstatements.Thisisdonethroughtheinvolvementoftheleadershipteam.Solicitideasandsuggestionsthattheywouldliketobrainstormwhilediscussingprosandcons,andthencomingupwiththesimilaritiesinthestandards.Whenthatprocessiscompleted,theteamwillbegintoputthepiecestogetherandformulatethecommongoals.Thisprocessallowsforallparticipantstofeelthattheyhavemadesignificantcontributionstowardthedevelopmentofthemissionstatementforthesystemaswellasthegoalstogovernthemselvesby.Inadditiontotheleadershipteamcollaborating,itisimportanttogatherfeedbackfromtheotherstaffmembers,students,parentsandthecommunity.Allofthesestakeholdersplayakeyroleinthesupportoftheschoolandsystemgoals,especiallythenumberonepriority,thestudents.KeepingtheBoardmembersinformedofalloftheprocessesbyinvolvingthemwiththeplanningisvitallyimportant.TheBoardmemberscanthenintelligentlygobackintotheircommunitiesandsharethesegoalswiththeirperspectiveconstituents.ThisalsoallowsthemtocontributefeedbacktotheBoardmemberssothattheytoocansharewiththeteam.Havingeveryoneinthecommunitywiththefeelingofownershipwithinthedecision-makingprocessesisinvaluabletothesuccessoftheentireschoolsystem.Allofthesecollaborativeeffortsinobtainingthesupportofalloftheentitiesandstakeholderswiththecommongoalsandmissionstatement,studentachievementwillbeinevitable.Theultimatechallengeandgoalistobeabletoprovidetheverybesteducationalexperiencesforthefuturegenerationofleaderswithinthecommunity,thestudents.
