Foreward by Norman Akroyd RA RETricia Torrington Chair GPC
The aims o setting up the Impress 09 National Printmaking Festivalwere simple –to provide a dynamic orum to promote contemporaryprintmaking, in Gloucestershire and located in the Stroud Valleys inparticular. This orum was to encourage, inorm and excite the publicabout what ine art printmaking actually is, and to oer contemporaryprintmakers the opportunity to exhibit, learn, meet and discuss. It was agreed early on that Impress 09 Festival was to be a dynamicand inclusive month-long event, showcasing some o the best incontemporary British printmaking and eaturing invited artists ostature. Perhaps organising a Festival o this prominence and thisbreadth in a recession was ambitious but this catalogue and theseries o exhibitions, talks, demonstrations and workshops thatsupport the Festival show that Printmaking is very much alive andkicking. This catalogue celebrates printmaking and print workshops romEngland, Wales and Ireland, as well as providing a platorm or someInternational artists. We hope this will prove a reerence tool or bothThe aims o setting up the Impress 09 National Printmaking Festivalwere simple – to provide a dynamic orum to promote contemporaryprintmaking, in Gloucestershire and the Stroud Valleys in particular. This orum was to encourage, inorm and excite the public aboutwhat ine art printmaking actually is, and to oer contemporaryprintmakers the opportunity to exhibit, learn, meet and discuss. It was agreed early on that the IMPRESS’09 Festival was to be adynamic and inclusive month-long event, showcasing some o thebest in contemporary British printmaking and eaturing invited artistso stature.
