The Japan International Cooperation Agency – JICA, the JICA Alumni Association o São Paulo – ABJICA-SP andthe Municipal Secretariat o Planning – SEMPLA, through the urban planners Daniel Todtmann Montandon andFelipe Francisco de Souza, frmed an agreement or the elaboration o a publication named “Land Readjustmentand Joint Urban Operations”.This publication is part o the technical cooperation accord between the City Hall o São Paulo and the JapanInternational Cooperation Agency - JICA. Such accord was initiated in 2005, with the participation o the twourban planners o SEMPLA in the course “Urban Development (ocused on Land Readjustment Measure)”, carriedthrough May until July o 2005 in the cities o Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nagoya in Japan.The main objective o this publication is to debate the ideas o the Japanese method o Land Readjustment andto analyze the concepts, methods, techniques and results gotten in the international context o application o this instrument and how it can contribute in the improvement o the practice o urban planning in São Paulo,more specifcally in the policy o urban development through urban interventions.The release o the publication was made in March o 2007 and will be distributed gratuitously or all the agencies(in the municipal, state and ederal instances) related to the urban planning, main universities o Brazil andsome selected institutions inside Japan. This distribution is part o the action plan established, transerring theknowledge and technology in the technical cooperation role in the disciplines related to urban planning.
