1Introduction 
Oracle Database XE is easy to install and takes less than 15 minutes. Theinstallation process creates Oracle Database XE with both the server and clientcomponents together. For the production release of Oracle Database XE, theclient component, in addition to being part of the server component, will beavailable in a separate installation.The Oracle Database XE server component provides both an Oracle database andtools for managing this database. The client component provides a set of toolsthat let you develop Java, .NET, PHP, and Oracle HTML DB applications.In addition, you can use the following tools in your Oracle Database XE clientdevelopment environment.

If you plan to use Oracle Database Extensions for .NET, then you must installVisual Studio .NET 2003 before you install Oracle Database XE. Visual Studio.NET 2003 includes .NET Framework 1.

2.1.3Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1Firewalls 
If you plan to install Oracle Database XE onto a computer running Windows XPService Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and then connect to it fromanother computer, check that the firewall has not been configured to blockcommunication from the following incoming ports. These ports are the defaultports that Oracle Database XE uses.
