The Samsung HMX-H106 is sexy and bold, offering thehighest-capacity Solid State Drive capacity we've seen todate.
Ladies and gentleman, we're up to 64GB of internal flash memory now in the camcorder world,courtesy of the new Samsung HMX-H106 High-Definition dual-memory camcorder. Joining the HMX-H106 are the HMX-H105 and HMX-H104, which feature 32GB and 16GB of Solid State memory,respectively. The HMX-H100 is devoid of internal Solid State memory and records exclusively toSD/SDHC cards, though all four camcorders have the capability to record to SD/SDHC cards.Now with all of that mumbo jumbo out of the way, we're here to tell you that all four camcorders areidentical, aside from their internal storage capacities. Inside they have a 1/4.5" CMOS chip thatcaptures 1920x1080/60i full-HD video, in addition to 1280x720/60P and 720x480/60P videoresolutions, which are more suited toward Internet usage. Based on our experience with Samsung'stop HD camcorders of the past, we're expecting some tantalizing video from these bad boys.So why a Solid State Drive (SSD) as opposed to an HDD (Hard Disk Drive)? Samsung claims thattheir SSD technology offers an excelled level of performance and durability. Apparently, Samsung'sSDD is also more lightweight, reduces power consumption and operates faster than a typical HDD. Of course, we'll be the judges of that when we get our paws on an HMX-H106.New to the H-Series is a 37mm wide-angle Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens.
