STOP, LOOK and LISTEN

There’s no mistaking that watching TV, videos, movies and listening to songs causes
us to relaxbecause it requires low levels of concentration. But did you know that whatever we read, listen toor look at has an incredible power and an effect on us? The power of our mind is awesome, andit can have positive and negative influences on us. When we feed our mind with negativeinfluences, the negative will come out. On the other hand, if we feed our mind with positivemessages, then the positive will win.

It's hard to escape the effects media can have on us after processing everything we see andhear. Offensive or inappropriate material is found in TV shows, movies, music, books, magazinesand the Internet. But the good news is that we can, for the most part, control and allow what wewant to enter our mind. This ensures that we can live a positive and healthy lifestyle. We shouldchoose only media and entertainment that is uplifting for us so we won't lose the Spirit of theLord. So we really shouldn't attend, view or participate in forms of entertainment which areimmoral, violent or vulgar. As early as now, we should be careful on the things that we watch, we listen to, we read, and wevisit so that we keep ourselves pure in thoughts. We should not allow ourselves to be exposed tomedia that would attempt to inject in us impure thoughts. We should know what is right fromwrong and should promote a healthy mind and spirit. How do we do that?
1. We listen to our parents
Our parents know and want what’s the best for us. They want us have to have a good life so we
should obey them, especially when it comes to what we watch, listen, read, and visit to. Ourparents are our guidance and we should listen to them always. Watch TV shows & movies with
them. They love us so much that they don’t want us to get lost somewhere while we are growing
up.
2. Know our limitations and be on guard
We should choose carefully the shows, videos and music that we watch and listen to; we shouldbe a selective watcher and listener. If we encounter anything that we don't think will meet andkeep God's standards, we should have the courage to turn it off, change it, or put it down. Everytime that there is something that is prohibited for us, stop and do not proceed at all. We shouldbe careful in listening to obscene languages for these are wrong and promotes anger.
3. Pray at all times
Praying to God that may He guide us always and take us away from all the temptations should bea habit for all of us. He is our ultimate guide and He is our best friend who will always guide us tothe right path.

Suggested Activities For KIDS AT PLAY (0-4)
-

Coloring session which suggests good manners like helping others, praying, etc.-

Let them watch a movie that is related to the topic above.
For FIRST STEP (5-7)
“Draw me my manners”

Let the children draw and color the good manners that their parents and teachers teach themfrom time to time. Give them time to go in front and share it to the group.
For FOOT STEP (8-10)

Divide the participants into two or three groups, with equal number of participants each group.Give them daily situations that show their day to day life with media. Example, watching televisionwith family, surfing the internet with friends, reading books or magazines. Also, you can use good
manners and right conduct such as “pag ma
-
mano”, helping out with household chores. The group

* Good manners and right conduct is connected with our topic in the sense that we should still observe these good manners despite of what we hear, see and read in radio, music, television, movies, internet and magazines.
“Right or Wrong”

Everybody should participate in this game. There are two choices, right or wrong. The gamemaster will show the participants a scenario (written in a short bond paper) that most of thethings that we watch or we listen to. Example, bullying, loving your neighbor like Santino, praying, fighting, cursing, early relationship, etc. Then the game master will then explain each round why isit right or wrong, good or bad. This is to make them realize that these are the things that theshows, music and others teach us unconsciously.
