"Science vs. Faith part 1"
No Previously On Lost:1) INT. STAFF. DAY.
The camerais focused onan eye as it pulls back to reveal it is that of Jack and he isstanding in front of some sort of power box in the Staff Station. He flips a few switches and finally the lights go on above his head and he looks up and the light shines down onto himin a sort of angelic way. Juliet walks up and says:
Juliet:
See, Jack... sometimes you just need a little faith.
 Jack just looks at her and starts walking down the hall towards the OR. Juliet follows and on the walk she says to him:
Juliet:
Jack, there's one thing that bothers me about you...
Jack:
Just one?
Juliet:
(she laughs then gets serious again
)...You know how I had your file... right?
 Jack stops and turns back to her and nods in a rather unhappy way.
Juliet:
What happened to you?... I mean... up until you were 17 you were a regular at Sundaymass... then... nothing. You just... you just stopped going.
 Jack turns and starts walking down the hall towards the OR again.
Juliet:
Sorry... you don't have to answer that... Iwas just... I found it strange. You used to believein something, but suddenly stopped.
 Jack walks through the OR doors and he looks down at Ji Yeon who is lying on thetablealready prepped for surgery. Jinin sitting beside her holding her hand. Jack looks at the twoof them andturns back to Juliet who stopped in the doorway.He quite simply says:
Jack:
My father.... my father happened...
 
 Juliet just looks at Jack as the camera cutsback to him andthe flash sound starts....
2)--FLASH-- INT. SHEPHARD HOME. DAY
. Jack walks into theback door ofhisparent's house and into the kitchen where he spots abottle ofvodkasitting on the counter top and it is nearly empty. He shakes his head and heturns thecorner into the hallway. He sees his mom sitting in the dining room alone and crying. He stops and he looks at her. She looks up at him and gives him a rather dirty look then turns away. He shutshis eyes then rubs them. Heturns and walksfurtherdown thehall and he sees an open letter on thetable and a broken vase on the ground next to it. Heslowly walks up to the letter and he picks it up. It is dated "July28th, 2004."He glancesdown over it and it says: "St. Sebastian Board of Directors have made a final ruling todismissDr. Christian Shephard from the Medical Board permanently due to lack of  judgement and apparent personal issues." Jack sits the letter down andlooks into theliving-room where he sees his father sittingon a chair with an empty bottle beside him. Jack walks in and before Christian even sees him he says:
Christian:
At least they're giving me my pension...
 Jack looks down. Christian gets up andturns towards Jack.
Christian:
You did the right thing Jack, the right thing for the hospital... the right thing for thatpregnant girl that I killed...
 Jack rolls his eyes and says:
Jack:
You didn't kill her, dad... you have a problem... it's that simple.
Christian smiles and shakes his head in agreement.
Christian:
Oh, I have a problem all right...
Christian walks over to the piano and he looks as some photos and some awards that areon display. There is a photo of Jack and he appears to be at the "St. FrancisChristianSummer Camp." He appears to be in his teens.
Christian:
Remember when you went there... that summer...
Jack:
Yeah, you did just about everything you could to stop me from getting out of the car... youwanted me to go to the science camp instead...
Christian:
 
Yeah... man, you put up a fight... you wanted to go so bad that summer...
Jack:
Well, part of it was that we got to go to Scotland... I couldn't pass that up.
Christian:
No... I know why you went. Ever since you were beaten up by that boy in grammar school...and I told you that you didn't have what it took...
Jack:
No...
Christian:
Yes, Jack. Ever since that day, you wanted to do everything in your power so you didn't turnout like me...
Jack:
That's not true...
Christian:
Then you found out that I used to be just as religious... and you stopped. Jack, I'm yourfather, I know how you think...
 Jack looks down. Christian picks something up from on the piano and walks over to Jack. Jack says:
Jack:
Dad, when did you start drinking so much? Why did you let this happen to yourself?
Christian, who is looking down, looks up and directly into Jack's eyes and says:
Christian:
I started when the nightmares started, Jack...
 Jack just looks at him and is about to say something, but is interrupted when Christianhands Jack something. Jack looks at it and says:
Jack:
Why are you giving me this?
Christian:
You'll always be a man of science, won't you son?
