Rules Of Engagement
1) Find your man: Find your man is done by counting offensive players from the outside of the field in. Each defender always lines up on the player that is his assigned counting number. It's the same number player each time. 2) Hit your man: refers to hitting your assigned player in order to accomplish our goal of disrupting the blockers and receivers while surrounding the ball in the offensive backfield. Use R.O.S.O and R.E.S.O. 3) Play football: After you've disrupted your man, look for the ball and tackle whoever has it.

R. O. S. O.
Read eyes: Find your man (the threatening blocker)
and get past his outside shoulder close enough to hit him (Rip).

Outside foot back: for faster up field movement. Step with away foot from any threatening blocker
for better balance.

Outside arm free: The DEs outside arm is kept free

by attacking the outside shoulder of any blocker. This arm (half the body) is kept free for tackling.

R. E. S. O.
Read eyes: Find your man (the threatening blocker)
and get past his outside shoulder close enough to hit him (Rip). Even toed stance. Step with away foot from any threatening blocker for better balance. (both feet if eyes on me read) Outside arm free on contact. This arm (half the body) is kept free for tackling. A simple rhyme on whether to dive or drive is reading the guard's eyes; Eyes on you; dive through. Eyes ahead; take off his head. (i.e. drive him into the center.)
