The climate of Bangladesh is highly favorable for high volume of mushroom production. The cultivation of mushroom is one of the lucrative agricultural jobs.In our study the profitability of mushroom cultivation was found comparatively higher than thatof rice and wheat, the most popular cash earning crops in Bangladesh. As funding to promotethe production and consumption of mushrooms is limited, local government and NGOs can play vital role to develop mushroom agriculture to arise at industrial level which can createample employment opportunities both in semi-urban and rural areas.Mushroom, a nutrient-dense versatile food can share some of the benefits of fruits andvegetables and complement almost any everyday meal. Mushroom production also requireslow technology, low investment and can be homegrown in very little space. In addition, womencan be employed in mushroom culture. Due to culinary, nutritional and health benefits, themushroom market is expected to grow as "a food, a tonic and a medicine".Therefore, this report shows that the potential of mushroom cultivation could be a possibleoffer tremendous opportunity for employment and develop the life style of the people inBangladesh. In a nutshell, an effective and efficient utilization of mushroom can bring arevolutionary change in the entire economic condition in terms of employment, social lifestyle,global market value and others.
