Title:

Auto Lubrication system for Blade bearing and Yaw gear Scope: Replacing manual lubrication system with Auto lubrication system Problem: No or insufficient or over greasing leads to catastrophic or functional failure of the bearing / gear. A lack of proper lubrication can bring valuable equipment to a standstill. Vibration, high mechanical loads, contamination and moisture are all threats to the life of bearings. Disadvantages of Manual Lubrication: With manual, uncontrolled lubrication, each bearing runs the risk of receiving too much or too little grease resulting in wasted grease or friction and wear. In addition, manual lubrication is tedious, expensive and often is not even possible due to the location of hard-to-reach lube points. Advantages of Auto Lubrication System: Controlled, exact amounts of lubrication delivered frequently keep bearings perfectly coated enabling them to perform to capacity. Proper lubrication protects machine and extends the life of its critical components. With automated lubrication system, it is possible to lengthen bearing life by delivering frequent, small amounts of grease to each bearing while the machine is running. Lower costs for repairs, spare parts and lubricant Improved operating times; less costly downtime Longer maintenance intervals one year or longer Greater bearing life from regular, exact amounts of lubrication Reduced safety issues associated with hard-to-reach lubrication points Added corrosion protection

Reason for failure: Improper lubrication cause some of the below listed phenomena which leads to failures Flaking, Pitting Wear and Fretting Brinelling and Nicks Scratches and Scuffing Rust and Corrosion Pear skin, Discoloration Smearing

reasons for Improper manual lubrication:

Many wind farms are not easily accessible due to remote locations. Maintenance workers face the prospect of ascending a couple of hundred feet to reach the nacelle and begin work Difficulty in reaching greasing points
