The owner of IP cancontroland berewardedfor its use, and this encourages further innovationand creativity to the benefit of us all.
 
The four main types of IP are
Patents for inventions
new and improved productsand processes that are capable of industrial application
• Trade marks for brand identity
of goods andservices allowing distinctions to be made betweendifferent traders
• Designs for product appearance
of the whole or apart of a product resulting from the features of, inparticular, the lines, contours, colours, shape, textureor materials of the product itself or its ornamentation
• Copyright for material
literary and artistic material,music, films, sound recordings and broadcasts,including software and multimedia.
 
Patent
 
A patent gives an inventor the right for alimited period to stop others from making,using or selling an invention without thepermission of the inventor.
It is a deal between an inventor and the statein which the inventor is allowed a short-termmonopoly in return for allowing the inventionto be made public.
