 The basic operation of a DSLR isas follows: for viewing purposes,the mirror reflects the lightcoming through the attached lensupwards at an approximately 90degree angle. It is then reflectedby the pentaprism to thephotographer's eye. Duringexposure (when the photographis taken), the mirror swingsupward, and a shutter opens,allowing the lens to project lightthrough the aperture onto thefilm / sensor.
