GENERAL POLICY
Does the CIA hire gay,lesbian and bisexual persons? 
Yes.CIA does not discriminateon the basis of sexualorientation in any of its employment decisions.CIA abides by Executive Order 11478 (as amendedby Executive Order 13087),which prohibits discrim-ination based on sexual orientation in the federalcivilian workforce.
What is CIA's policy on anti-gay harassment inthe workplace? 
CIA policy strictly prohibits harassment in theworkplace,including harassment based on sexualorientation.Specifically,CIA prohibits verbal orphysical conduct that denigrates or shows hostility oraversion toward an individual or group and is basedon sexual orientation and creates a hostile environ-ment,unreasonably interferes with an individual’swork performance,or otherwise adversely affects anindividual’s employment opportunities.Examples of harassment include epithets,slurs,negative stereotyping,threats,or intimidation,whether they are expressedtoward an individual or group or are contained inmaterials that are circulated in the workplace orplaced on walls or elsewhere on CIA premises.
 
In addition,both CIA policy and federal law prohibitsexual harassment in the workplace.Unwelcomesexual advances,requests for sexual favors andother verbal or physical conduct of a sexual natureconstitute sexual harassment when submission toor rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitlyaffects an individual’s employment,unreasonablyinterferes with an individual’swork performance,or createsa hostile or offensive work environment.Examples includeunwelcome demands,propo-sitions,advances,teasing,dirty jokes,remarks,orquestions of a sexual nature;offensive gestures and touching;sexuallydemeaning wordsused to describe an individual;and the display in the work-place of sexually offensiveobjects or pictures.
Will I be asked about my sexual orientation during the employment application process? 
You will not be asked about your sexual orientationprior to receiving a conditional offer of employmentfrom CIA.If you receive and accept a conditionaloffer of employment,you will then undergo securityand medical/psychological evaluations.There is noroutine question about sexual orientation in eitherthe security or the medical/psychological evaluation,and sexual orientation per se is not a security,medical,or psychological issue for CIA.Nevertheless,duringthese evaluations there could be specific,individualcircumstances in which you might be asked directlyabout your orientation or in which you would finddisclosure of your orientation unavoidable.
During the security evaluation process,for example,you could be asked about your close personalrelationships,about persons who live with you,or about organizations you’ve been associated with.If such circumstances involved your orientation,youprobably could not avoid disclosing your orientation.
