    For Immediate Release August 3, 2012 - Gas Bubbles in the Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou Areas - Early this morning, it was reported to Parish Officials that a diesel odor was present in the Bayou Corne Community. Immediately, all State agencies were notified. An area of “slurry” has been identified South of Highway 70 located in the swamp area between Grand Bayou and Bayou Corne approximately ½ mile from the highway. The trees in the “slurry” area have collapsed. The area is approximately 200 ft. by 200 ft.

    For Immediate Release Gas Bubbles in the Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou Areas Early this morning, it was reported to Parish Officials that a diesel odor was present in the Bayou Corne Community. Immediately, all State agencies were notified. An area of slurry has been identified South of Highway 70 located in the swamp area between Grand Bayou and Bayou Corne approximately mile from the highway. The trees in the slurry area have collapsed. The area is approximately 200 ft. by 200 ft. and is located as follows: Approximately 2500 ft. away from the closest resident Approximately 600 ft. away from the pipelines Approximately 1300 ft. from the water well casing Approximately 1900 ft. from the nearest bubbling location.

    Louisiana State Police, along with Parish Emergency Officials, will be conducting a helicopter fly over to determine if any additional sites exist. Parish Emergency Officials and State Agencies will continue to monitor for additional sites and for the potential expansion of the existing slurry area. All appropriate State Agencies are responding to this event. The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will start 24 hr. operations effective immediately. They will also re-position monitors immediately within the community. At present time, there is no anticipated closure of Highway 70. The previously noted bubble locations have not changed. If anyone has information on bubbling locations or about a potential origin of the gas, please contact the Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at (985) 369-7386.
