Traveling has played a huge role in my life, not only by shaping me as anindividual but by more clearly defining the world around me as well. From the streets of Italy to thethe bazaars of India I have encountered people and perspectives that have infused me withboth heartache and inspiration. Through my work with infectious disease overseas anddomestically, I have learned a great deal about the realities of present day health care systems andthe need for compassionate and dedicated physicians working within them. The Kenya Project is achance for me to return to the global community to pursue my passion for learning, educating, andhealing those in need and furthermore, an opportunity to learn the skills necessary to contribute tothe course of change in the future. - Kamala Nyamathi
One benefit that I hope to gain from The Kenya Project, in both the short andlong-term, is a proficiency in the basic medical skills, including a broadening of my medicalknowledge. I know that participating in The Kenya Project will allow me to treat patients withconditions that I would rarely see in the United States. But my main reason for wanting toparticipate in The Kenya Project is the opportunity to travel and experience cultures outside of myown. I believe that travelling and experiencing other cultures first-hand is the most effective way tofacilitate an interchange of learning. I also think that this will help me improve my sense of culturalcompetence when treating patients here at home. - Steve Inano
