Week 5 checkpoint hcr 220 Dear medical staff, enclosed is an understanding of the CPT code categories and buzzwords

that I would like us medical staff to use from now on. Each code categ ory will display the types of procedures or services included in it and an examp le. Please use this as a reference and example for further work. Here are the CPT code meanings as we learn in school Category 1. Procedures that are consistent with contemporary medical practice an d are widely performed Category 2. Supplementary tracking codes that can be used for performance measur es. Category 3. Temporary codes for emerging technology, services and procedures. To make things easier here we will keep 3 codes but rename each with a descripti on that we all understand and then it will list the procedures and examples. Category one is going to be First Steps First steps is used by physicians and by most outpatient providers when reporti ng a significant portion of their services and procedures. An example is 62270 Spinal puncture, lumbar or diagnostic. Category two is second steps. Second steps are performance measures that have been argued upon as contributing to good patient care. An example is 0002F Tabaco use, smoking, assessed. The third category is third steps. Third steps are used to represent temporary codes for new and emerging technolog ies. They have been created to allow for data collection and utilization for new procedures or services. An example is 0058T Cryopreservation, reproductive tissue, ovarian. I hope this will help you all and most importantly remember they just have diffe rent names but all still will have the same meanings.
