Bone Builders

Table Tennis

A great way to improve eye-hand coordination: helps keep the body healthy and the mind sharp. Drop-in. Game room.** No cost.
Bone Builders consists of three parts: balance exercises, weight training and discussion concerning diet, safety and exercise. This program, in partnership with Montgomery County, uses trained RSVP volunteers supervised by a certified trainer. Registration is required. Dance Studio. No cost.

Kirk Talbott will introduce you to the ancient Chinese internal martial art of tai-chi chuan, a gentle moving meditation that improves health and restores balance and calm. The class will emphasize relaxation, posture, and breathing through the slow, integrated exercise of the traditional Yang-style short form.

Carol Mermey, RYT, will introduce you to the ways yoga can help you increase flexibility, strength, and balance, using a series of seated and standing poses. 1. To begin the registration process, please call 301-891-7280 to include your name on a pre-registration list.
Note: This list will hold the participants place in line for 3 days to one week, depending on when the trip is scheduled in the month. Registration for the current months trip (s) will usually begin on the first business day of the month. To insure proper processing, it is best to speak directly with a Recreation Department staff person. Do not leave a recorded message.
2. A Takoma Park Recreation Department registration form is required for each trip.
Note: This form must be received by the end of the pre-registration period, or the participant will be removed from the list, and the space will become available.
3. Please register in-person, or mail the registration form to: Takoma Park Recreation Department, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland 20912.

Senior Request
Back by popular demand, we will return again this year to enjoy a good old-fashioned county fair with animal and agricultural exhibits, craft shows, commercial vendor booths and festival foods. Bring your lunch, or spending money to buy lunch, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Some, but not all, of the fairgrounds buildings and grounds are accessible by wheelchair. Dress appropriately for comfort. Rain or Shine! Date: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 Time: 9:00 a.m.3:00 p.m. Meet at Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue. The National Museum of Health and Medicine recently moved to Silver Spring, relocating from its former spot at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. You will see a variety of unusual medical exhibits from Americans past, from which you may form an appreciation of modern medicine. Warning: Some of you may find a few of these medical exhibits disturbing but most of you will find them fascinating. Dress for comfort. Rain or Shine! Bring spending money to purchase your lunch at a local eatery. Date: Thursday, August 23, 2012 Time: 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Meet at Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue. Our June 7th trip to the new National Harbor was fantastic! We enjoyed the beautiful weather and sight seeing. A great day for all.
