I agree fear is a huge problem. What I've come to understand is that it's not just a psychological issue, but also has an energetic impact in that we may actually be feeling and reacting to the fears of other people. I just posted an article called Fear Is All Around Us where I go into this a bit more. I think this is a huge problem, especially when our media is doing it's best to compound and propagate fear.

Mary, we each carry with us a basket of fears we have engaged all the time. So much so that we don't think about them much. That may or may not be natural, depending on what the fears are. Fear is a topic that is given far too little attention. Much of it results from deficits in our social or emotional development, I believe. And those are unknowns to most of us. Fear is an interesting emotion. Think about how rarely you experience fear, at least compared to happyness, sadness, or excitement. And usually when we do get fearful, like you say in this essay, it's about things we shouldn't be afraid of. How often are people fearful of something they actually should be afraid of? I'm guessing it's very rare.
