editor’s note

Te woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
Robert Frost’s 1923 poem
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening,
with its iambic rhythm, wintry imagery and straight-orward narrativeo a man literally stopping (while traveling onhorseback) by woods on a snowy evening, isdeceptively simple. And delusively complex.Te poem is, on the surace, just about thestory, but hardly beneath the surace are loty thoughts on aging, keeping commitments, death, innumerable big ideas.Tis kind o duplicity can be exactly whatturns a lot o people o about poetry, but it’sexactly what I love. Poetry can be anything, mean anything, express anything, reach anyone.I’ve always ound this subjectivity o poems to be

exciting and un.Poetry is also a big part o my everyday thoughts because — and, yes, I’m aware thisis cheesy as hell — I oten look to avoritelines or encouragement, creative inspirationor comort.
Stopping By Woods
isn’t my avorite poem;in act, I think it’s hokey, old-ashioned,completely not my style. But it holds a specialplace in my heart because I’ve known it since I was in middle school, and because I’ve alwaysound reassurance in the message o carrying on despite an incredible desire to give up.Check out aylor’s story on page 8 to learnmore about poetry and how you can makeit an accessible part o your everyday lie. As we all head into fnals week madness, maybeyou’ll be able to fnd a new love — or way to express your love, at least — or even someinvaluable piece o mind. Who knows?
