Stemmons Freeway Dallas, TX 75207 Re: DCMS recommends immediate aerial spraying for West Nile Virus Dear Dr. Perkins: The Dallas County Medical Society supports the immediate implementation of an aerial spraying plan to combat the historic outbreak of West Nile Virus in Dallas County. Because of the efforts of the Dallas County Health Department staff, the physicians and leadership of the Dallas County Medical Society have been monitoring the outbreak of West Nile Virus in our region. We applaud your efforts and appreciate your communications with physicians across the county. As we have watched this seasons outbreak reach historic levels, our concerns have risen. This concern led to a conference call last night (Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012) of the DCMS Community Emergency Response Committee. This emergency conference call focused on providing the medical communitys support in this difficult time to you, other leaders of the Dallas County Health Department, and Dallas County elected leaders. After thoroughly reviewing the data, the committee voted 13-0 to recommend immediate aerial spraying. The Dallas County Medical Society board of directors agrees, and we offer you our assistance in communicating the need for immediate aerial spraying to Health Department leadership and area elected officials. We also stand ready to assist you in communicating with the public through the media in the region. Attached is a letter from a group of infectious disease physicians that articulates the opinions of our Committee. We support the opinions in this letter and urge you to act quickly to reduce the risks of additional infection among the areas residents. We will make ourselves available at any time, including Tuesdays Commissioners Court meeting, to support you and Mr. Thompson. We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact Michael Darrouzet, DCMS EVP/CEO at [REDACTED], to discuss this matter further. Sincerely,

Richard Snyder II, MD President

John Carlo, MD Chair, DCMS Community Emergency Response Committee
