Greetings and Happy New Year,Given the uncertainty surrounding the current economic times, theterms layoffs, downsizing, job cuts, terminations, workforcereductions, off-shoring, outsourcing and separations have becomefar too common. Yet this can be a pivotal time to re-examine ourpast choices enabling us to redefine our career paths based upon ourown values and definition of
success
.We have all chosen different professional paths and through themazes of the business, corporate, government and service worlds wehave discovered more than one definition of
success
and more thanone ladder to climb to achieve it. However, it is not until weexperience these critical moments in our lives that we are forced tounderstand our own individual reality assisting us in charting ourown course for life and
success
. Remember it's really our story andwe are the architect of our lives. In the beginning of our careers what was once new and unique cannow seem routine and boring. Cutting edge managementphilosophies, viewed through the eyes of experience, begin to mimicyesterday's warmed-over initiatives. Business model fads come andgo as quickly as the buzzwords that spawn them.We reach thepoint where we've seen and heard it all before, and may havetrouble getting excited about seeing and doing it all again whetherin a new position, new organization or relationship. So, how do we go about defining and achieving our own idea of
success
in our work, personal and spiritual lives despite what aresure to be tough times ahead?Take responsibility for defining our own
success
, make a plan andcarry it out on our own terms. Don't let others plan for us; anyonewho wants to plan our future is really planning for themselves. Eachof us must find our own source of motivation for
success
.Don't rely on what motivated us earlier in life. We are all differentpeople today thanwe were 5, 10, or 20 years ago.We havedifferent perspectives, experiences, skill sets and maybe even adifferent value system. There are many paths to
success
; we need toexplore our options, choose what fitsus and achieve our goals in ourown time.If the thought of change makesus uncomfortable, this can be a good

thing. Often, with new and untested territory comes a renewedpassion for life, go for it. Making a conscious effort to choose a newenvironment for applying our skills and wisdom can be an excellenttool for re-igniting our motivation.Further our education; get experience and network, network, network. Whetherwe are concerned about job security in ourcurrent field, or anticipating the need to make a professional orpersonal change, during challenging economic times, the bestinvestment for
success
is in ourselves. We need to choose to live well to alleviate stress at work and athome. Organize our time and energy, eat nutritionally, and getsome sunshine, exercise and enough sleep everyday.Following our own personal path of motivation is good advice forachieving professional and personal fulfillment and
success
. Thesource for our motivation is guaranteed to shift over time; it is ourmission to determine how to shift with it. Only then will we be ableto redefine
success
in our life.
Warm Regards,
