bar tab, check out my story onpage 18. This issue’s competitionasks you to share your jobstories, and by sharing, you couldhelp feed students from your
university or school. You’ll nd
the details of the competition onpage 12, and visit thecompetitions page on our web site, where we will be posting all theentries, and updating the leaderboard regularly. We are also launching a newmagazine ‘The Be Seen Zine’ inresponse to the huge numbers ofartists out there with awesomework to show and the reality thatwe cannot include them all in thepages of disco underworld. Increating this issue I have metmany artists and learnt that theydon’t choose art or design as acareer because it pays well, butthey choose it for passion andlove, in fact less than 20% ofartists are fully self employed, most have to have a second job. They all deserve to be successfuland ‘seen’. The Be Seen Zine willgive every artist everywhere thechance to be seen by the readersof disco underworld, with greatextra perks like the chance tohave a piece bought by us andauctioned off with proceedsgoing charity and the opportunityfor small businesses to gain somecheap exposure on the world stage, whether they are a café or abookstore in Wellington orWaterford. Have a look at page 24for more details. Our featured people this issueare also all in different stagesof their work/life cycle. There’sAsh, who is a self made graphic

designer, James who is in the setup stage of his new business,Andrew who balances work and hiscreative side, and Dustin who isestablishing himself in Hollywood,to Whitney and Natasha who arestarting out, studying atUniversity and making the most ofopportunities that come their way.The things they all have incommon, are that they are allyoung, interesting and passionateabout what they do.We will be keeping tabs on them asthey progress, and haverevisited Irish Brian from lastissue, he has another piece on theback page. Please read, enjoy and vote forthe person you think deserves towin NZ $500 cash. Please getbehind the students as well, bysharing your job story.Issue #2 is out December 1st, makesure you join our newsletter to bereminded each time we publish!!!Stacey ChildsEditorEmail medisco underworld is published byOnline Insight Limited © copyright2008. Ihave met so many brilliantpeople and heard their feedbackand thoughts on this magazine- allof which have been fantastic, andI’ve found it so exciting that Inow have to consciously make aneffort to stop puttingexclamation marks at the end ofall my sentences, which is
difcult because I am just so darn
excited!!!This issue is awesome, and worthgetting excited about. It ispurposefully full of positivearticles, there is enough negativemedia in the world as it is- whoneeds or wants more, when thereare so many good things going on?We’ve loosely themed this issuearound jobs and careers and thesteps we take to achieve happinessin life. This was sparked by theamount of negative media currentlybeing thrown around about ourgeneration and the way we viewwork and life in general. This isa hot topic for stressed outmanagers and ageing bosses alike, and the media has been providingthem with a wealth of materialregarding how to ‘handle’ us-mostly written by older people whowouldn’t have the slightest ideahow we think. Check out thearticle on page 34 which gives ourgeneration a voice. Our competition this month alsopays tribute to jobs we have hadto work to make ends meet. Mostof us have a great embarrassingjob story, my most memorablestory is from university where Iworked as a med school ‘patient’to earn enough money for my
