His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
It is not very difficult to open a center for ouractivities. You can remain in any apartment ashusband and wife and invite persons there to hear your chanting and topics; that is our center, and let itbe gradually improved. I think this program will be very much suitable for you at the present moment.(Letter to Annapurna and Ananda, 4 September 1968)That boys and girls from the neighborhood arecoming to help the temple activities is the good resultof our attempts. The temple center is started just topresent an example to the neighboring residentshow they can make a small temple in each andevery home. It is not necessary that hundreds andthousands of people will live in our temple, butif we can make an effective propaganda then theneighboring residents, householders, will be inclinedto be initiated and follow the modes of temple life.So you encourage the visitors, boys and girls as wellas married couples, to understand the value of lifeand how they can peacefully and happily live if thefollow the routine worship method in the templeand establish this in their home to be happy in allrespects. The Krishna consciousness movementis actually an attempt to make all people happy generally, and becoming liberated in this life frommaterial contamination, they’ll thus be eligible toenter into the kingdom of God after quitting thisbody. (Letter to Tamal Krishna, 1 June 1969)

With reference to the boys holding
kértanas
independently, our propaganda should be like that. That people may open different centers of theirown, or each and every householder may havehis own class at home. It is not that everyone isrequired to join the Society; they may take the ideafrom the Society and introduce in their private life. And if possible, let us sell to them the paraphernaliaof
kértana
,
karatälas
,
mådanga
, deities, etc. (Letterto Mandali Bhadra, 2 April 1972) We want every house to be a temple, not that ourplace should be the only place for the people tocome. No, this should be the process: that they learnat our place, and then establish the same thing athome. (Letter to Bhavananda, 14 April 1972)Householder life is also a perfect platform forrendering devotional service to Krishna. Any stationof life — whether you are unmarried, married,or in any occupation of life — you can achievethe highest goal by adopting and practicing theprinciples of devotional service. You are marriedand your husband is striving to become a devoteeof Krishna, so you become his devotee, that is theposition of husband and wife, that the husband will become a great devotee of Krishna by his wife’s assistance, and the wife will take benefit andadvance in spiritual life by serving her husband. You are anxious about the rules and regulations, but without rules and regulations there is morefrustration. So it may be a little difficult at first, but if you are sincere to achieve the highest resultof your lifetime, then you can be assured that by  your efforts in Krishna consciousness that you will very quickly become happy more and more. Thedifficulties of this material world will shrink to nomore than the size of a hoof-print left by a calf. Actually there is no difference between devoteesliving inside the temple and devotees living outsidethe temple. You are right that the important thing is toremember Krishna, whatever is your activity. So try toremember Krishna always by following the principlesas you know them, namely, rising early, taking bath, cleansing, attending
ärati
, reading scriptures at leastone hour or two hours daily, chanting sixteen roundson beads of Hare Krishna mantra, going for street
saìkértana
, offering all your foodstuffs to Krishna, like that. In this way very quickly you will makeprogress in Krishna consciousness and become very, very happy in your life. (Letter to SusanBeckham, 20 September 1972)

harma
Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja
It is the order of the Supreme Lord that
varëäçrama-dharma
should be established inthe human society of
baddha-jévas
, the conditionedsouls of this material world.
cätur-varëyaà mayä såñtaà guëa-karma-vibhägaçaù
— One’s
varëa
isnot determined according to birth but is determinedaccording to one’s
guëa
and karma, qualities andactivities. That is the order of the Supreme Lord inthe
Bhagavad-gétä
, and it should be followed insociety. People should be taught real science. Whatis that? They should follow
varëäçrama-dharma
under the expert guidance of a
vaiñëava-äcärya
.In Kali-yuga there are two types of
varëäçrama- dharma
,
daivé-varëäçrama-dharma
and
äsuré- varëäçrama-dharma
— divine
varëäçrama
 and demoniac
varëäçrama
.
Äsuré-varëäçrama- dharma
is now prominent.
Daivé-varëäçrama- dharma
is destroyed in Kali-yuga.The purpose of
varëäçrama-dharma
is
saàsiddhir hari-toñaëam
— one must offer theresults of his activity for the pleasure of Lord Hari.If one uses the results of one’s activity for one’sown enjoyment, for one’s
dharma, artha, käma,or mokña
, then one is not following the principlesof
daivé-varëäçrama-dharma
. This is the principleof
äsuré-varëäçrama-dharma
. If one acts selfishly  — and even acting for
mokña
, for liberation, isselfish — that becomes duplicity,
käpaöya
. This is what is going on in
Kali-yuga
.Bhakti performed under the regulation of
daivé-varëäçrama-dharma
is
gauëa-bhakti,gauëa-patha
, an inferior, indirect path.
Gauëa- bhakti
is a
bhakti-patha
, a path of devotion, butit is secondary, not chief.
Varëäçrama-dharma
ismeant for conditioned souls, not for liberated souls who are situated in their constitutional position. Itis not pure devotion.By offering the fruits of one’s activity for thepleasure of Lord Hari, the heart will becomepurified of material desires. When one becomesfree from desires for one’s own enjoyment andhappiness, and under the guidance of a bona fide

guru utilizes the fruit of his activities for Lord Hari’ssatisfaction, then one is elevated to the stage of pure devotion,
çuddha-bhakti
. He will then inquireand put forward questions about the soul andthe supersoul —
tattva-jijïäsä
. A taste for
hari- kathä
will develop. By these symptoms it may beunderstood that such a person is not in the category of
varëäçrama-dharma
, but has gone above it.Therefore it is said that a
vaiñëava
does not belongto any caste. One should never say that a
vaiñëava
 is a
brähmaëa
,
kñatriya
,
vaiçya
or
çüdra
. He is a
vaiñëava
. A
vaiñëava
is not under the modes of material nature. He is beyond them.

Srila Srinivas Acharya’s commentary on Çrémad Bhägavatam 2.9.33 - 34
The next two verses of the

Brahma, it is I, the Personality of Godhead, who existed before the creation, when there wasnothing but myself. Nor was there the materialnature, the cause of this creation. That which yousee now is also I, the Personality of Godhead, andafter annihilation what remains will also be I, thePersonality of Godhead. (33)O Brahma, whatever appears to be of any value,if it is without relation to me, has no reality. Know itas my illusory energy, that reflection which appearsto be in darkness.
