FR: Fritz Wenzel, President, Wenzel Strategies RE: Telephone Survey of Likely GOP Primary Runoff Election Voters in GA CD9
Wenzel Strategies is a public opinion research firm, established in 2005 and based in Columbus, Ohio that works with political, business, non-profit, media, and government clients nationwide. It conducted a telephone survey of likely Republican Primary Runoff Election voters in Georgias 9th Congressional District. The poll was fielded on Aug. 10-11, 2012, and included 600 respondents. The survey carries a margin of error of +/- 3.98 percentage points.

The Wenzel Strategies survey of likely runoff election voters in GA CD9 showed that Martha Zoller leads Doug Collins by a 43% to 39% margin, with 18% saying they were yet unsure in the race. The race is clearly divided by ideology, the survey shows. Among self-identified moderate voters, Collins leads by a 54% to 34% margin over Zoller, but among TEA Part conservatives, Zoller enjoys a 48% to 31% edge. In the middle of the Republican ideological scale, traditional conservatives were largely split between the two candidates, as Zoller leads with 43% support, compared to 40% support for Collins. The more conservative the voter, the more likely they were to be unsure about the race, the poll shows. While just 12% of moderates said they were uncertain for whom they would vote, 16% of traditional conservatives and 22% of TEA Party conservatives said they had yet to make up their minds. But among those who had made up their minds, support appears equally intense for both candidates, as 77% of those supporting Zoller and 75% of those supporting Collins said they were firm in their selection. Many more respondents in the survey said they felt that, generally speaking, things in their local area were headed in the wrong direction (49%) than said they felt things were on the right track (31%). Those who felt things were going along fine favored Collins over Zoller by a 52% to 34% margin, while those who said things were off on the wrong track favored Zoller by a 47% to 32% margin. Zoller is better known and seen more favorably than is Collins, the survey shows. Two-thirds of respondents (66%) said they had a favorable opinion of her, while 20% said their view was unfavorable and 15% said they didnt know her well enough to have formed an opinion. Fifty-eight percent said they held a favorable opinion of Collins, while 19% held an unfavorable view of him. Nearly one in four voters 24% said they didnt know Collins well enough to have formed an opinion about him.
