Maintenance care how-to:
Remove everything from your washer.Run hot water up to the highest setting your washer offers. You may want to raise the tem-perature of your water heater to ensure very hot water, and remember to turn it back downwhen you are done. When the washer is full, add 3 cups of distilled white vinegar or two cups of lemon juice, and½ cup of baking soda.Let your washer go on it’s cycle until the water starts to drain and then put it through a spincycle as the water is draining. This allows any residue that has been loosened to come looseand be washed away.Once completed, remove any residue that you may see on the inside.Run a cold cycle on the highest agitation (what you would use for your dirtiest loads).Wash the external parts – the tubs that hold bleach and fabric softener often have some sortof build up and collect dirt and grime as it falls from dirty clothes thrown in the machine overthem. Also wipe a rag over the top of the inner tub, a part that won’t be cleaned thoroughlyby doing your washer maintenance but over time collects grime. That’s it!

Your washer has two tubs. The inner holds your laundry while the outer holds the water duringthe wash and rinse cycles. Soap residue buildup can result in the tubs. Over time, your deter-gent, laundry softener and other ingredients canclump up and hold odor – simply cleaning theinner tub is not enough.Baking soda lifts residue easily and also flushesthe pips on the way out. You will also find bak-ing soda neutralizes acids (found in urine), andthus odor instead of just covering them up.Vinegar eliminates soap residue and build upwhile also neutralizing odors. Vinegar is alsoused to help eliminate diaper odor, and whenput in the fabric softener cup in a washer, alsoacts as such! When you do your laundry, your washer develops build up that needs to be removed. Believe it or not, your washing machinerequires it’s own regular wash and care to extend its life and keep it’s washing power top notch.Doesn’t matter if you have a top or front loading machine. They all should have regular care every two to three months.
