How to fold: Prefold Diapers
A
prefold diaper
is shaped like a rectangle, with three distinct columns (the center being thethickest). These diapers must be folded several or more times to be used effectively on your baby, and you will need to use a diaper cover to prevent leaks. Pins or a Snappi Diaper Fastener may beused to fasten the diapers.
The Trifold
Perhaps the easiest fold to master, the
trifold
creates a thick and absorbent pad that you simply lay inside adiaper wrap. This fold will not work with pull-up style covers as the diaper will shift as baby moves. Diaperfasteners are not used on this.
Folding Steps:
1.

Lay the diaper flat2.

Fold up the bottom to fit in the cover, or justunder baby’s navel.3.

Fold 1/3 of the diaper over the center.4.

Fold the other 1/3 over the center, so now you havea long rectangle. You may tuck the edges into theother 1/3 you just folded over to provide stability.5.

Lay the diaper in your diaper cover, or use as aninsert or doubler.
The Bikini Twist
The bikini twist is considered to be the most versatile fold, fitting nearly every baby it is used on. It eliminates alot of bulk between the legs without reducing absorption.
Folding Steps:
1.

Lay the diaper flat, with baby’s bottom on the backhalf to third depending on size.2.

Simply twist the diaper once, and line the twist upwith your baby’s crotch.3.

Bring the rest of the diaper up between the legs, and fold down the top to fit under the navel. Theportion folded down can be folded in towardsbaby, or out towards the cover.4.

Fasten secure (shown with a Snappi) and cover.
The Angel Wing Fold
The newspaper fold is one of the most “old fashioned” folding techniques, but it is still around today for goodreason: it fits many body types, contains messes well, and has absorption where it’s needed most!
Folding Steps:
1.

Lay the diaper flat, with baby’s bottom on the backhalf to third depending on size.
2.

Take one bottom corner and fold it over the center.
3.

Take the other bottom corner and fold that over thecenter in the opposite direction.
4.

Bring the diaper up between baby’s legs, and foldthe top down to fit under the navel. You may fanthe diaper edges to gain more coverage if needed.
5.

Pin or fasten shut, cover, and you’re done!
