Chapter One: Exodus
“Brandon!” Matt yelled from the balcony. “Brandon!Wake up!” Brandon’s eyes shot open, and he grabbed hispistol from the small table to the right of the bed.“What is it?” Brandon called back, as he realized itwasn’t an attack. He gently placed the pistol back on thetable and walked towards the balcony where his friendMatt stood, wide eyed.“Dude…they’ve taken Omaha…” His ear pressedagainst the ear piece of the radio.

referred to the invading army from the east,from the state that used to be Iowa. Iowa borderedNebraska, back when the U.S. still existed. The year was 2010, and the U.S. was deeply in debt toforeign countries from the Iraq war. Economic crisisgripped the country for years, teetering on the edge of another depression.Finally, on September 28, 2010, the Governmentcollapsed. Repeated attacks from other countries crippledthe defense of the country, and there was no money left torebuild. The Government disbanded, and left the country toits own fate. The 50 states turned against each other,fighting for land, money, guns, and power.With the U.S. Government disbanded, the entire

How many?” Brandon asked Matt,who still had his ear pressed up against theradio.“The city isn’t destroyed. It sounds like…they…
surrendered!” 
Brandon cursed under hisbreath.“If they surrendered, then that means theirarmy has joined Iowa’s. They’ll soon bemarching down to us.”Brandon turned around, and walked over tohis bed. He sat down on the right side, pickedup his pistol again, and placed it in the holsteron his left side.“We must get the citizens down into theBase. Those who wish to fight, shall join ourarmy.” Brandon smiled, looking down at thefloor. “Can you believe we built that base threeyears ago? It used to be a simple mine shaft…”Matt turned around, looking confused.“What? A mining shaft?”“Yea, I found it on accident.” Brandon’ssmile grew wider. He looked up at Matt.“Thought it’d make a good base. What can Isay?”
