Instructional Design Principles for Distance Education

Distance Education
institution-based, formal education where the learning group is separated, and where interactive telecommunications systems are used to connect learners, resources, and instructors Distance education is a method of education in which the learner is physically separate from the teacher.

BasicTypes of Distance Education


Asynchronous distance learning occurs when the teacher and the pupils interact in different places and during different times. Synchronous distance learning occurs when the teacher and his pupils interact in different places but during the same time.

Instructional Design
the systematic development of instructional specifications uses learning and instructional theory entire process of analysis of learning needs and goals development of a delivery system includes development of instructional materials and activities tryout and evaluation of all instruction and learner activities

Instructional Design Principles


consider the components of a successful learning system These components are the learners, the content, the method and materials, and the environment, including the technology. The interaction of these components creates the type of learning experience necessary balance among the components critical part of the process is evaluation. leads to revision of instruction, and revision of instruction helps secure the final outcome

Administer Assessments
Teachers and students must know what they do and do not know They must know progress that is being made or lack their of Way to prove learning has taken place and to a degree modified to meet the individual needs of learners, IEP other modification plans

Why Assess
goal of an assessment is to improve student learning and understand student learning through this ongoing process increased engagement of subject matter simple way to integrate technology students to use and practice technology skills and technology based test formats Increased students motivation to try and find a correct answer and therefore learn from their mistakes used to make critical judgments about the performance of schools, teachers, and students
