UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY
TOP STORIESAUGUST 17, 2012
Ensign Jordan J. Foley, former brigade commander, visited China’s Dalian Naval Academy for surface warfare ofcersto participate in their international week, a rst for the Naval  Academy. Here, he shares his experience:
After spending a semester in China, I did not think myexperience at the Dalian Naval Academy would differ all thatmuch. I attended classes with Chinese students and madesome good friends from those experiences at Beijing’sCapital Normal University (CNU). Other than the additionalrigors of military life, to me, this was going to be another Chinese university, but I underestimated the strictness anddiscipline. The Dalian Naval Academy is China’s premier institution for surface ofcers, oftentimes referred to as “the cradle for navalofcers.”
As the new academic year opens, Naval AcademySuperintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller reects onthe accomplishments of the midshipmen, faculty andstaff during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Approximately 120 Naval Academy midshipmen completedthree weeks of at sea training Aug. 9 on board Naval Academy yard patrol craft as part of the Atlantic Professional Aoat Training program.
Midshipmen returning to the Naval Academy for thestart of the academic year will notice a change in thefemale combination cover. Find out more about thisand other potential uniform changes for female sailors.
