Parish Accountability Report 11-12

Our Challenge
Per the Archdiocese, each parish is asked to provide to their parishioners a Parish Accountability Report, or recap of each fiscal year. This report includes our annual income statement and end of year balance sheet, as well as activities, ministries and sacramental information for the 11-12 (July 1-June 30) fiscal year . This past year we were blessed with Fr. Paul Beach and have recently welcomed our new pastor, Fr. Dale Cieslik, who joins us from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Before Fr. Paul left he challenged us to continue our capital campaign giving until May 14. Even though our five year campaign ended June 12, at that time we still owed approximately $590,000 on our church loan. Our blue envelopes used for the capital campaign giving will continue to be mailed to parishioners. (We could never have anticipated the downturn in the economy soon after we took out our loan.) Prayerfully consider your part in helping our debt repayment. His peace, Helen Hagan

Parishioners are asked to continue their campaign giving until May 14.

Lord God of compassion and mercy, you opened a door in the East for St. Francis Xavier when you sent him to preach your Gospel. Send us in our day over the face of the earth, so that the joy of our Mother, the Church, may be made perfect. Amen

Adult Ministries and Sacraments

The highlights of adult formation for the parish included education of the new Roman missal, bible studies, a Christmas concert, and R.C.I.A. We worked on the changes to the New Roman Missal in various ways: by participating in the Why Catholic? small faith sharing groups; by doing Our Call to Worship multi-generational sessions, skits, games, and video clips. In addition, we offered two Ask Father Paul sessions. This past year we continued the series, The Great Adventure Bible Study with the book of Revelation and also studied A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. In Dec. 11 we welcomed the Mid-Ky Chorus for their beautiful Christmas concert. The Rite of Christian Initiation met on Sundays throughout the year with five people receiving Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. The highlight of the evening was witnessing a tearful Brooke Ann Armstrong being baptized and the warm embrace awaiting her as her father wrapped her in a warm towel as she walked out of the baptismal font. The Holy Spirit was present! Two others received First Holy Eucharist and Confirmation while four others remain in the Catechumenate. We look forward to their receiving the sacraments in the near future. Blessings, Lisa Downs

New This Year

St. Francis Xavier hosted a successful Ministry Fair in February which was a great opportunity to meet new and existing parishioners and discuss the various ministries, organizations and activities this parish has to offer. In conjunction with the Ministry Fair, a successful silent auction was held which included Religious Education class keepsake art pieces, support from fellow ministries, the community and themed gift baskets from SFX ministries. Folks enjoyed food (compliments of Roosters and Family Ministry), fun, fellowship and a little bit of fundraising, This event raised $5,709! Religious Education News

The Religious Education year of 2011-2012 was filled with 224 smiling faces. During the year, the children grew in their faith formation with the help of very dedicated, caring Catechists that share their faith with the children in their classes. We are blessed here at St. Francis Xavier to have such wonderful people working with our children. The seventh and eighth grade classes hosted the annual Thanksgiving and Valentine dinners for the seniors of our parish. The children really enjoyed cooking and serving the senior members. The children have said every year that this was so much fun and they really enjoyed the night. Twyla Mills works with the children in teaching them many new skills including cooking that will help them in their future lives. This year we had 32 children make their First Communion and 21 make their Confirmation. I enjoy working with your children and watching them grow in their faith. Blessings, Darlene

Thank you for the opportunity to serve your children.

Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry Program at Saint Francis Xavier experienced growth this past year with 16 teens attending the Wednesday gatherings. We worked on the New Roman Missal changes in the fall and worked on the T3 Bible Timeline with Mark Hart during the winter and spring seasons. The teens along with an adult chaperone attended N.C.Y.C. in Indianapolis in November for an unforgettable experience. We All teens are welcome cant wait until 2013! to join us at any time! Nine teens and five adults traveled to Auxier, Ky. In June to add a bathroom to Hershel Johnsons house as well as repair plumbing underneath Charlie and Barb Bentlys house and move their bathroom to another part of their house that wasnt sinking! The work was exhausting and exhilarating all at the same time. Blessings, Lisa Downs

Our Worship Changes in 2011

In addition to my duties as a permanent deacon at St. Francis Xavier, I have been the Worship Committee chairperson since 2005. Activities such as: liturgical planning, music ministry, art and environment, ministry scheduling and training, nursing home ministry, bereavement and funeral planning are coordinated by the Worship Committee. During 2011, the Worship Committee was also responsible for the full implementation of the new General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) and the introduction of the Third Edition of The Roman Missal. Bringing our Sunday liturgies into full compliance with the new GIRM was accomplished by making some minor changes to posture used during Sunday liturgies. This was the first major change to the Roman Missal since the early 1970s. train ministers in all areas of parish activities, as well as, inform the parish at large about the changes that would become effective on the First Sunday of Advent. On Sunday, November 27, 2011 with Archbishop Kurtz present to install Father Paul Beach as our pastor, the Third Edition of the Roman Missal was successfully implemented at Saint Francis Xavier. Deacon Gerry Mattingly

The implementation required the purchase of new missals used at Mass both for the altar and the assembly. It also required the purchase of training materials, and investment in time for parish leaders to be trained. The Worship Committee coordinated a massive The Third Edition of the Roman training effort to Missal was successfully implemented beginning on 11/27/11
