A Letter from the Dean:

Welcome to the start of the 2012-2103 school year. We arelooking forward to an exciting year, and our faculty and staff lookforward to working to provide you with the best possibleeducational experience.During the summer period, we havecontinued to work to improve our facilities, with a focus on classroom and labs. Inparticular, those of you who are returningwill notice the change in room N202, whichis now a larger and much improvedstate-of-the art classroom. During this fallsemester, we will also be working toImprove key teaching labs across the college. We also are welcoming new faculty in both petroleumengineering and geology & geophysics. In petroleumengineering, Dr. Xingru Wu, who is joining us from BP. In geology& Geophysics, Dr. Jamie Rich (geophysics) will be joining thefaculty, coming to us from Devon Energy. We are very pleased towelcome Dr. Wu and Dr. Rich, who are joining the faculty startingFall, 2012, to the University of Oklahoma. We also are verypleased that Dr. Matt Pranter (petroleum geology) and Dr.Ahmad Ghassemi (petroleum engineering) will be joining ourfaculty at later dates after completing their current obligations atother institutions. As I have said in my last several letters at the beginning of past school years, we have strong interest and enrollment in theMewbourne College of Earth & Energy. We are at near recordenrollment in petroleum engineering and continue to havestrong enrollment in geology and geophysics. My focus and thefocus of key administrators across the college, will remain onproviding all of the instructional resources necessary to meetthe demands of our students. We have been very fortunate tohave strong support from both alumni and industry, which hasmade the many improvements in the college possible.I look forward to meeting our new students and welcomingback our returning students. Again, the faculty, staff and I areready to work with you as you prepare for your future.Larry R. Grillot
