Superman Logo Illusion Knit This is an illusion knit, and the chart charts ridges, not rows.

Make sure you know how to illusion knit before starting. The key to the chart is as follows: Red = knit with red/dark colour Yellow = knit with yellow/light colour White = purl with whichever colour is appropriate to the current ridge. The whole chart is 165 stitches by 180 rows, but as is evident much of this is flat background. The main logo area is approximately 140 stitches by 140 ridges.

Alternatively you could switch to a blue yarn for the blue to make it a more colour true superman logo, but this will severely reduce the impact of the illusion knit; as the shape will already be easily apparent. Make sure you know how to follow an illusion knit chart before you begin. (Try Wooly Thoughts website for instructions) The end result will be viewable at an angle from the bottom. Alternate ridges between light and dark. The red grid is 5x5 stitches x ridges; the entire pattern is 100 stitches by 110 rows. This should make a reasonable sized panel; the centre of a small-medium sized blanket. Start instructions:
Ridge 1: Cast on 100 stitches in yellow. Knit/Purl 1 row, according to your preference for background. R2: Change to red. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row. R3: Change to yellow. Knit 1 row. Knit/Purl 1 row, as before. Continue in this alternation of colours for ridges, with the same knit/purl instructions until first line of interest in pattern- ridge 7 R7: Change to yellow. Knit one row. Knit/purl 47 stitches, Purl 4 stitches, Knit/purl to end. R8: Change to red. Knit 1 row. Purl 48 stitches, Knit 2 stitches, Purl to end. R9: Change to yellow. Knit 1 row. Knit/purl 46 stitches, Purl 6 stitches, Knit/purl to end.
