Description

This is a paper I wrote for Languages of the World (Lingusitics 102, Cultural Anthropology 114) about the general sociolinguistic atmosphere of Suriname. It's one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world yet it has among the most diverse and convergent linguistic and ethnic populations in the world. Not to mention the Southern 80% of the country is virtually uninhabited untouched rainforest and 20-30 new species were recently discovered there including a purple frog.
