SITUATIONS: In case of Earthquake:

We want to communicate with you all as quickly as possible. Earthquakes can destroy our ability to communicate. Even when we are safe, we may not be able to keep you informed quickly. Thus, please feel free to use the phone number or email above to inform yourselves of the severity of the earthquake. In the case of a mild earthquake, give us 36 hours to communicate with you. In the case of an extreme earthquake, feel free to contact the relevant embassy for a reference on their emergency response plan and timing.

In case of Hurricane:
We should communicate with you regarding potential hurricanes prior to a hurricane hitting. If we do not confirm that we are aware of the hurricane, feel free to make us aware of a hurricane. (Accessibility to internet and news may be limited to us at times.) In the case of a mild hurricane (Class 1 - 2), please give us at least 36 hours to communicate. Be advised that we will seek shelter in a concrete building away from the ocean nearest to our accommodations. We will proactively seek internet or phone connection to communicate with you within that time frame. After that time, feel free to contact the relevant embassy about their plan and timing. You can assume that if we do not communicate in this time frame that we are healthy and simply out of reach. After an additional 36 hours, feel free to connect with the embassy about our safety. In the case of a moderate hurricane (Class 3 - 4), please give us at least 72 hours. Though the likelihood of damage to internet and communication infrastructure is much higher, the physical risk is still not that high. We are proactively seeking internet or phone connection. Feel free to contact the embassy to determine a fair expectation of our response time. In the case of a severe hurricane (Class 5), we will make every attempt to depart the island. Should we have to stay on the island, we are seeking the highest ground possible in a secure building. We will make every effort to make our way to the U.S. embassy to ensure our ability to communicate with you as soon as possible. Feel free to contact the embassy about a reasonable time frame to expect work on our safety.

In case of Sudden Adverse Government Changes:

Political unrest in either Haiti or the Dominican Republic is not highly likely, but it is certainly possible. Government changes in general do not concern us. You can expect us to communicate as tensions rise. Feel free to inquire of us about our sense of the situation. In the case of citizen revolts, looting and general unrest, we will respond according to the advisements of the relevant embassy.

In the case of possible coup detat, we will respond according to the advisements of the relevant embassy. We will maintain a heightened sense of safety and make every attempt to depart earlier than recommended. In the case that there is a coup in Haiti before we can depart by plane, we will make our way to the U.S. embassy. If access to the embassy in Haiti is blocked, we will make our way to the Dominican Republic and head directly to the U.S. embassy there. Once across the border, we will attempt to call or email you after connecting with the embassy in the Dominican Republic. Whether or not we find connection immediately after crossing into the Dominican Republic, we will seek to contact you once we arrive in the embassy in the Dominican Republic. In case of Disease/Illness Outbreak:

Disease and sickness is a constant threat in Haiti. Have confidence that both of us have had all the shots necessary to travel to both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Our work is typically not in highly populated areas. Generally, the Dominican Republic rarely has an outbreak to be concerned about. Though Haiti has higher risk for disease, our work rarely brings us to populated areas. We only visit areas with disease risk such as Port-Au-Prince when absolutely necessary. Regardless, should there be an outbreak of any significance, we will follow the advisements of the relevant embassy. We will be in constant contact with you regarding the issue. Feel free to email us your concerns regarding the outbreak. Also, feel free to contact the embassy Should either of us show any significant signs of the illness, we will seek medical evaluation immediately. If diagnosed with the illness and are not bound by any quarantine, we will seek to return to the United States for medical care pertinent to our insurance. Since our insurance will include the service of medical evacuation, should we not be allowed to depart with a commercial carrier, we will depart via medical evacuation.

In the case of Americas Overthrow/Apocalypse:

Haiti/Dominican Republic is no longer a strategic location for enemies of the U.S. except in naval warfare. We recommend being on the island as opposed to the United States mainland. We also recommend arriving in the Dominican Republic, as it has more infrastructure to meet your needs. Haitis security will likely deteriorate quickly. The Dominican Republics borders should close shortly after that. Should the D.R. still become a target, it has a good location to escape to other Caribbean Islands. Pack a weekend bag. Go to your nearest airport. Pay whatever it takes for a ticket to the D.R. We will pick you up and have an Earthship ready for you.

In the case of the Rapture:

A) We will not be reachable by email or phone...ever again. B) Neither should you be.
