Vision Statement
Barnsgate will be a new and attractive settlement focused on mixingthe modern comforts of urban living with the charm of rural environ-ments. The Planning scheme will focus on creating sustainable commu-nities rather than just housing developments. The creation of a qualityneighbourhood is a key priority, aswell as providing oppertunities foreconomic development. The SDZ lands are part of a wider new residential area in WesternDublin which was undergoing rapid development up until 2007. In thecontext of the Metropolitan Area the locality of the SDZ may bedescribed as generally outer suburban. It is situated approx. 4.5 kmfrom Blanchardstown town centre and is approx. 12km from Dublin CityCentre.- Density and Landuse FrameworkThe Barnsgate planning scheme is located on a 52 hectare South ofthe Dunboyne rail line, West County Dublin. The development is toaccomadate 4,000 people (a total of 1,600 dwellings). The majority ofthe lands, and those in the immediate area are currently open agricul-tural fields.- Neighbourhood StrategyThe physical form will promote the development of a vibrant communitythat reflects the suburban nature of the scheme. This will be acheivedby emphaizing the incorperation of traditonal housing with quality openspace areas, helping to create inclusive communities.- Access and Movement StrategyThe scheme aims to provide alternatives to the private car by takingadvantage of the new Hansfeild train station, and by providing busroutes aswell as a continous network of walking and cycle links whichintegrate within the scheme, the Hansfeild SDZ scheme, and surround-ing areas.- Amenity, Open Space and Recreational StrategyThe scheme aims to mix passive and active open space to provide for,and foster communities, culture, biodiversity and sustainable neighbour-hoods. The plan provides for 18 hectares, which far exceeds therequirements of the Fingal Development Plan 2011- 2017.- Culture and Community StrategyThe scheme focuses on the ability to attract a diverse, lifestyle rich andinclusive area through the incorperation of sustainable communities andcultural uses.- Environment and Resource Sustainablity StrategyTo preserve ecosystems and landscape by incorperating distinct habi-tats and established features into a network of parks and open spaces.
