The Power Point introduces the unprecedented resources now available through the new Benefit Corporation business model and the Crowd Funding Provisions of the JOBS ACT. In this application, those resources are combined with Community Economic Development principles and practices to help foster innovation, collaboration, job creation, enlightened entrepreneurship, and sustainable communities.

Benefit Corporations are a new class of cause-oriented corporation that: (1) creates a material positive impact on society and the environment; (2) expands fiduciary duty to require consideration of non-financial interests when making decisions; (3) reports on its overall social and environmental performance using recognized third party standards.

Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Lab, a nonprofit organization, certifies B Corporations. There are over 500 Certified B Corporations across 60 different industries. B Corporations are a diverse community with one unifying goal: to redefine success in business. The best resource center for information on Benefit Corporations and B Corps is B Lab.  http://www.benefitcorp.net/

The recently passed JOBS Act creates Crowd Funding opportunities, eases IPO rules, and will let businesses advertise and raise equity capital from non-accredited investors.

The Power Point presents plan for establishing a national network of Community Economic Development Benefit Corporations in every state where that legislation has passed and affiliated B Corps and non-profit CAN DO! Community Empowerment Resource Centers as described at http://www.cedbcorp.com
