Reply To Your ProblemSolver Within And Win Bigor Be Deleted!
By LaRon Andre Carter
Do you ever get those e-mails that just sit in your mailbox for days before you delete? Some of those e-mails linger like a foul odor in your fabrics from an appetizing fish dinner the nightbefore. You either have challenges bringing yourself to read it because you know what’s in it. Or youfear a virus from its sender, so you delete them. The others just sit there while you stiflethrough hundreds of e-mails that made it through your spam filters, reading all sorts of junk andforwarded chain letters sent by friends who mean well.So what gives? This very concept of “bate and switch” runs in and out of our mature minds aswe attempt to navigate through the decision making process for everyday living. Certainly yourealize our children have far more difficulties managing, “Should I or should I not open thismailbag of worms,” particularly if we have somehow neglected to train them up in the way theyshould grow to be adults that have no fear of defeating whatever life sends their way.Well even if you have birthed the golden child, I am sure you would agree it is time to providethis generation with the tools needed to build basic character traits of integrity, intellect, andinterest of problem solving with purpose. This idea in it’s self gives us a sense of comfort, knowing we have done our very best to contribute grounded fundamental elements for community development through the minds of babes.Well, OK, not so much babes but young people that are able to look at situations and not bemoved into action until more information has been gathered, pros and cons weighed to balancepositive and negative outcomes, adding well thought out responses to sometimes difficultsituations and circumstances. How does this magical event evolve from the pages of real life atwork? It pings like any other notification that has been properly installed. The way to get effective problem solving to work for you and the people you influence is tobegin with the basics of replying to a problem.Responding to problem situations properly leads to resolve from the inside out. Buildingcharacter in your child’s reasoning capabilities can be a great place to start. Model scientificskills to solve problems daily, it’s actually a basic concept. Teach them to make unbiasedobservations in the information gathering process. Then practice organizing and classifyingdata for later use and analyzes. In my classroom students get excited over making predictions.
