The name of my honours degree is Applied Computing. This project is a real worldapplication of the computing skills I developed in the years previously and demonstrateshow the theory is applied to a real world problem. The goal of the project was to design anddevelop a database that can be queried and return useful information for various domainusers. The project also aimed at demonstrating how a single data storage repository is moresuitable in a real world situation. The project starts by defining its objectives and scopewhich is limited to the database area as that was the module the project belonged. Thedatabase design is then stepped through from the conceptual model to the physical tables. The functions of the database are then described explaining what the finished database willdo for the end user. The nature of the steps taken to maintain the integrity of the databaseis then described. The project concludes with an explanation of the testing strategies usedto insure that the database was working as envisioned.
